The Story Edit

£1.29 per 100 words

A developmental edit focuses on the bigger picture of your manuscript: its structure, story, pacing and potential. It’s ideal for early drafts, or for writers who feel something isn’t quite working but aren’t sure how to move forward. Together, we’ll identify what’s working, where your story could be strengthened, and how to bring your ideas into sharper focus.

What’s included

  • Detailed in-manuscript comments on characterisation, pacing, setting, structure and style.
  • A 4–6 page editorial report with clear, actionable recommendations.
  • The option of a one-hour post-edit discussion to explore feedback, ask questions and soundboard ideas.
  • Best suited to: Early drafts and manuscripts that need structural development, a clearer direction or a stronger narrative foundation.

The Line Edit

£0.70 - £1.00 per 100 words

A line-by-line edit designed to refine your prose, improve readability and ensure consistency throughout your manuscript. This service focuses on the writing itself rather than the wider story structure, helping your words read clearly, confidently and naturally. It’s best for manuscripts where the story and structure are already established and you’re ready to polish the language.

What’s included

  • Corrections to spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  • Continuity checks to identify inconsistencies.
  • Improvements to readability, sentence flow and active, dynamic writing.
  • Attention to tone, syntax and stylistic consistency.
  • Checks on quotations and relevant fact-checking.
  • A comprehensive style guide, following an existing style such as Oxford or Chicago, or establishing your own authorial conventions.

What’s not included:

Rewriting or extensive redrafting. This service refines your writing while preserving your voice and intentions.

Best suited to: Later drafts that are structurally sound and ready for detailed language-level refinement. It’s more in-depth than proofreading, which focuses on final surface-level errors.

The Complete Edit

£0.85 - £1.20 per 100 words

A comprehensive edit combining developmental feedback with detailed line-by-line editing. It considers both the bigger picture and the finer details, helping you strengthen your story while refining the writing on the page.

This service is ideal when you’ve taken your manuscript as far as you can independently but know it needs a more thorough editorial review before moving forward.

What’s included

  • Everything included in The Story Edit and The Line Edit.
  • A 3–5 page editorial report summarising the manuscript’s strengths, key issues and areas for improvement.
  • A tailored style guide to support consistency throughout your manuscript.
  • The option of a one-hour post-edit discussion to talk through feedback and next steps.

Best suited to: Writers seeking comprehensive editorial support, particularly those working on a first manuscript or wanting both structural guidance and detailed writing feedback.

Please note: This service is most effective when the manuscript is sufficiently developed for a line edit. If substantial rewriting is likely to be needed following developmental feedback, a staged editing approach may be more appropriate.

Few Things to Know

Manuscript Length & Pricing

Our package pricing is based on manuscripts of up to 50,000 words. Longer manuscripts may incur additional charges, which will always be discussed and agreed with you before work begins.

Your Complimentary Proof Copy

Each publishing package includes one proof copy, allowing you to review your book's printed appearance before proceeding with any further printing.

Printing & Print-on-Demand

Print runs are charged separately, as costs vary depending on the book's format, specifications and quantity. We don't believe authors should be committed to large print runs unnecessarily. Where appropriate, we can arrange print-on-demand, allowing copies to be printed as orders are received or as you need them.

Publishing That Works for You

Every author and manuscript is different. Our packages are designed as starting points to help you explore the services available through Glass Arcade. You're welcome to customise your package, selecting the services that suit your manuscript, goals and budget while leaving out those you don't need. We'll discuss your requirements with you and provide a tailored quotation before any work begins.

Please note:

  • Manuscript length: Package prices are based on manuscripts of up to 50,000 words. Additional charges may apply to longer manuscripts.
  • Editing: The appropriate editorial service depends on your manuscript's stage and requirements. Additional or alternative editing can be quoted separately where it is not included.
  • Printing: One proof copy is included, subject to your final package terms. Additional print runs, copies and delivery may incur extra charges.
  • Flexible packages: These packages are starting points. You can customise your selection of services to suit your manuscript, publishing goals and budget.
  • No sales guarantees: Distribution and publishing support do not guarantee sales, bestseller status, media coverage or acceptance by third-party platforms.
